| Talisman Centre |
The Talisman Center is a sports complex with a lot of business history attached to its name. It used to be called the Lindsay Park Sports Center but the name was changed in the year 2002 when the naming rights was sold to Talisman Energy for a total of $10 million. Talisman holds the right to the name of the sports complex for up to thirty years.
The sports complex, which is the largest sports facility in the country, was initially constructed to accommodate two million people but this was later increased to 3.5 million visitors after an expansion program in 2003. It still holds the record as Nor America’s second largest sports complex. No less than 1.8 million people visit the Talisman Center every year.
The $24.7 million sports complex was constructed in 1983 to serve as venue for the Western Canada Summer Games. However, the $22 million expansion project in 2003 has increased the total cost of the sports complex to $46.7 million.
It is really a good architecture piece with the white roof shaped like a taco. It is also worthwhile to note that the roof’s skin is Teflon-coated and its outer skin made of fiberglass. These materials allow the roof to have a high transparency rate negating the use of to much light that is sourced artificially.
The complex is easily accessible by C-Train as well as the pathway to the Elbow River making it an ideal venue for local, national and even international games.
