Calgary in Canada is a favorite destination for local and foreign tourists with millions of tourists coming from different parts of the globe visiting the city every year. Going on a trip to Calgary in Canada should be a hassle-free and relaxing experience for you. To make sure you get that experience you have to prepare for the trip well ahead of time.
If you are traveling to Canada for the first time then there are certain requirements that you have to accomplish to enter the country. Travelers to Canada need to accomplish travel documents before they are allowed to enter the country.
If you are a citizen of the United States and you will enter the country straight from the US then you need not get a visa to enter Canada. However you have to show proof of your citizenship by presenting your American passport or a copy of your birth certificate which should be certified as true and correct by the US city or state of your birth. If you are a naturalized American citizen and do not possess an American passport then you can present your certificate of naturalization.
Make sure to bring any of these documents to prove your identity and citizenship because other documents like your driver’s license or even your Social Security ID will not be accepted as a valid document to prove your citizenship.
If you are a US citizen but will enter Canada not from the United States but from another country then you have to present your passport. If you are classified as an alien with a permanent US residency status then you need your Alien Registration Card or what most people refer to as Green Card.
If you have a dual citizenship meaning you are considered as a citizen of both the United States and Canada then identify yourself as a citizen of Canada every time you enter the country to make your entry easier.
When you have minor children with you when entering Canada you should make sure that you can present proof that you have custody of the child or that you have a letter from your spouse authorizing you to travel with the child. Such letter should be notarized to be considered as valid. This is just a precaution considering the many cases of abduction involving children.
If you are below eighteen years old and are entering Canada alone then you must present a letter from your parents or your legal guardian which shows proof that your trip has been authorized by them. You would not want to experience any delay during your travel to Canada so make sure you have all of these documents with you.
All visitors to Canada who are citizens of the countries specified in the list are required to get a visa before entering Canada.
